The capital of the cross-border Portes du Soleil ski area (France’s second-largest ski area), Morzine offers an incredibly convenient location, beautiful tree-fringed runs, great restaurants, and a buzzing après-ski scene. Plus, it’s more affordable than many of the more famous ski resorts in the southern French Alps.

Huge Ski Area

Located in the heart of the Portes du Soleil, Morzine boasts 650km of pisted slopes — spanning 14 resorts and 2 countries. As you might expect from this amount of terrain, there’s enough variety to satisfy first-timers and seasoned pros alike. Glide down the resort’s tree-lined blue and red runs with the wind in your hair.  Or take on the challenging ‘La Chavanette’ (commonly known as the ‘Swiss Wall’) in Avoriaz. Snowboarders are also well-catered for with numerous purpose-built board parks. The Stash in Avoriaz is one of the most famous snowboard parks in the world, combining various natural and man made features in the forest of Lindarets. Visit once and you’ll discover why this epic alpine playground keeps skiers coming back time and time again.

Great Location 

Arrive at the airport and reach your accommodation feeling fresh. Morzine is around a 75-minute drive from Geneva, which is the perfect amount of time to admire the jaw-dropping alpine scenery en route. With one of the shortest transfer times in the Alps, Morzine is a great option for a short break. Hop on an early-morning flight, drop your bags on arrival, and hit the slopes before lunch. Tasty Ski runs a number of short stay options throughout the winter. One of our most popular short stays is a Wednesday to Sunday holiday. It allows you to take just 3 days off work but enjoy 5 full days of skiing or snowboarding in Morzine and the Portes du Soleil. The early flights get you into Geneva before 10am meaning that you can hit the slopes before lunchtime. You can then get a late flight on Sunday allowing you to ski a full day before heading to the airport.

Fabulous Dining 

Forget your typical alpine cheese and meat platters. Morzine has a great dining scene to tantalize your taste buds every day of the week. Our personal favourite has to be the food at Hideout Morzine. Sharif Gergiz is behind the stove and has created an incredible pan-Asian menu including things like Tonkotsu Ramen, Pork Dum-Dums, and his world famous Bang Bang Broccoli.  The quality of the food here is incredible and it is little wonder Hideout Morzine has won Best Food in Morzine for the last 2 years. There are so many other great options in the centre of Morzine as well – the food scene in town is buzzing with new restaurants popping up the whole time. And yes it is now even possible to get an Indian takeaway! Is traditional Savoyard still your thing? No problem – Chez Nannon up the ski slopes at Nyon is sensational. Buzzing Nightlife

The après-ski ski scene in Morzine doesn’t disappoint, and night owls can hang out in an array of local clubs and bars. The coolest place in town is certainly Café Chaud. It’s where the seasonnaires hang out and there are various live events on throughout the week. They also have the World Beer Pong Championships which is a huge amount of fun. You can also wind down at The Wine Bar, an intimate venue in a stone vaulted cave with a tapas menu and thousands of bottles. Luckily, there’s a resident sommelier to help guide your decision-making. The recently opened Folie Douce in Avoriaz is a buzzing venue that definitely warrants a visit. Alongside a tasty menu of fresh Savoyard produce, there’s live music and DJ sets every afternoon. The Folie Douce is the often described as the marmite of apres ski – you either love it or you hate the place. It’s completely over the top – think bottles of Champagne being transported to your table remotely by a mini cable car.

Off-Slope Activities

It’s easy to swap a day in the mountains with Morzine’s host of off-slope activities. Pull on your skates and hit the town’s world-class ice rink, go snowmobiling, snowshoeing, tobogganing, or take an ice dive beneath a glittering lake. The town is a year-round resort also attracts visitors in the summer months, with opportunities for hiking, white water rafting, paragliding, and fishing. Morzine is also home to some of the world’s best biking terrain. Stunning road bike routes and rugged mountain trails lie in wait, including sections that have been ridden in the Tour De France.

Full of Character

While the major resorts can sometimes feel devoid of personality, Morzine retains a small town charm all of its own. For over 500 years, it served as a French farming and mining town. Today, low-rise wooden chalets help to maintain its unique character, which means you can still have an authentic mountain town experience. To soak up the local atmosphere, visit the weekly local market —- held every Wednesday morning by the river in the centre of town.
