Winter

When the nights grow dark and cold, where deep snow sits heavy upon the icy Lac, it’s as if time itself has been frozen still.

After a long day on the mountain, sit back, relax, and soak up the warmth from the roaring fire. Maybe with a cocktail if you’re feeling fancy…

SKIING / SNOWBOARDING

Discover the vast winter wonderland of the Portes du Soleil ski area. 650km of perfectly groomed pistes spread over 2 countries and 12 resorts, catering for all levels of skier or snowboarder.

From easy and forgiving family and beginner areas, to long mellow slopes, steep, deep and technical off piste, or freestyle snow parks, the Portes du Soleil definitely does not disappoint.

Known to many as the snowboard capital of Europe, and a training ground for international race teams, the PDS really does have something for everyone.

Don’t forget to check out the world famous Burton Stash, and the infamous Swiss Wall on your trip (not for the faint hearted).

Over 11 interlinked resorts between Switzerland and France include:

9 snow parks

650km of skiing across 286 pistes

Up to an altitude of 2,254m

Challenging slopes and gentle tree-lined runs

The Morzine – Les Gets sector is 46 ski lifts and 66 slopes

The Avoriaz sector is 36 ski lifts and 51 slopes

LIFT PASSES

You already have enough to think about on the first morning of your holiday: Helmet? Check. Goggles? check. Skis, poles, snowboard? Check. Now there is no need to stress about queuing for a lift pass! We can have your lift pass delivered to Hotel du Lac on your arrival, so on your first morning you can head straight to the slopes.

There are two different lift pass options – the local area of Morzine/Les Gets, or the full area pass, the Portes Du Soleil.

ICE SKATING

Fancy taking a break from the slopes and enjoying a fun activity with your friends and family ? The Parc des Dereches has two Ice rinks for you to show off your moves.

Indoors:

Skate at the Scoda arena home of the mighty Penguins, the infamous Morzine-Avoriaz hockey club. This huge 56x26m indoor skating rink is open to the public every day, and there is even a weekly “Ice disco” so you can get your wiggle on. Drinks and snacks are available from the “QG des Pingouins” bar between your skating sessions.

Check out opening times and prices here.

Outdoors:

Come and skate on the Tourist Office square! The 30x15m outdoor ice rink of Morzine-Avoriaz is situated on the Tourist Office square and is open to the public.

SNOWSHOE TREKKING

Fancy skipping that lift line?

Snowshoeing has become immensely popular since COVID, being the only way for most of us to enjoy the mountains last winter.

Snowshoeing allows you to access otherwise unwalkable paths in winter. Strap the snowshoes onto your walking boots and explore the winter wilderness at a slower pace. With loads of marked trails, you will find it a great way to explore the mountains, whatever your levels of fitness.

Bring your own equipment or hire your snowshoes in resort. You can even strap your skis/snowboard to your back so you can enjoy the ride down. Earn your turns!

ICE DIVING

Break the ice and explore the cavernous depths in ways you’ve never experienced before.

Whether you are a beginner or advanced ice diver, plunge straight into the icy waters of the frozen Lac de Montriond and take advantage of professional advice, suitable facilities and equipment to go ice diving in complete safety.
