Tobogganing and Sledging in Morzine

Morzine during the peak winter weeks of Christmas, New Year and  February Half term is a huge amount of fun. There is a real buzz in resort as the town is covered in snow and the bars and restaurants are in full swing. However it is also one of the busiest times of year where the slopes can become crowded during the busiest times of the day. Lift queues can grow towards the end of the day and often families with young children want to try another activity for a couple of hours. So let us introduce you to sledging in Morzine! It is a huge amount of fun and is a great way to enjoy the white stuff but with smaller crowds on the slopes. Why not try night sledging where you have the whole piste to yourself accompanied with just your toboggan and a head torch!

Day Time Family Sledging

There are a number of places to enjoy sledging with the family in Morzine and the wider Portes du Soleil. In Morzine the best place to go is at the bottom of Le Pleney ski slopes. It is a great spot as there are a number of places to grab a drink at the bottom and Le Pleney is also walking distance from all of Tasty Ski’s chalets.

In Les Gets at the bottom of the Chavannes cable car there is a dedicated area for families with young children to play around in the snow with a relatively flat area for sledging. There are a number of ski hire shops that also hire sledges located in the centre of Morzine. All of Tasty Ski’s properties are located in the centre of town so the hire shops are very accessible from your catered ski chalet.

Night Sledging in Morzine

Most evenings it is possible to do guided night sledging from the top of Le Pleney cable car all the way down into Morzine town! This activity is not for the faint hearted but you can go at your own pace and you are given a safety briefing with your guide before heading down the piste. The evening begins at the bottom of Le Pleney cable car where you head up as a group with your sledges. The route takes you the full 4km from the top of the cable car all the way down the Piste  B back to the bottom of the cable car. Depending on the exact time you set off and the time of year it may be getting dark – but fear not for you are supplied with your own head torch!

There is a minimum age of 8 years old and anyone under the age of 12 must share a sledge with an adult. Be sure to wrap up warm and definitely wear gloves as there is only a small metal lever on each side of the sledge which acts as both your steering wheel and brake! Generally the whole activity takes about an hour and the great thing about finishing back in town is that you can immediately warm yourselves up with a chocolat/vin chaud in one of the many bars lining the piste.
